Well, after numerous comments about the "junkie" aspect, we've rebranded to The Pipe Stand. Nice thing about this, is it may end up being a good name for me to sell my restored estate pipes under also. I DID have fun with the domain redirects.. totally forgot to include an nginx stanza for the old domain SSL (with certs) listening on port 443 to forward to the new domain.

Quote from transient: “Do you want someone to run your server for free? I don't think even @Katy would do that for you. ” Honestly, I'm already doing that for 1 person on 2 VPS's and his main container machine. Got another that I recently installed CentOS (and transferred all sites over to it) and configured everything (including installing/configuring WebMin panel) and he decided he didn't like it (and there were a few issues with some scripts he had) so we wiped the server and installed Debian…

Quote from transient: “You moved the thread around, that's why I missed it. ” Actually, that's a neat feature of forum software - it leaves a link in the original location (if set by the moderator/admin) when a thread is moved. That function was utilized on that thread when it was moved to the scripts forum. Once it got off-kilter for the scripts area it got moved back to its original. But no matter where it went, the notification feature would have followed it.

Quote from transient: “Instead of helping me on things I didn't ask, how about writing that simple script for me? ” You mean this one that was done 10/16/2016 @ 8:55PM central time and that you replied to about the same time you made your post I am replying to? And that's just another reason I like Debian over Ubuntu. Not as cutting edge, so you don't bleed as often. admin-hub.com/attachment/555/?…9e7a1d920679c1c08d22a64b5

Quote from alakazam: “Quote from BB8: “IPB is unbeatable in terms of design, indeed. ” I disagree. IPB 4 looks bulky and acts sluggish. IPB 3 was a lot more elegant. ” IPB 3 had older design structure and used a different philosophy.. I actually HATE visiting 3.x IPS site that I am a member of. The IPS 4 sites are actually (to me) friendlier. And as for acting "sluggish"? Don't have any problems with that on my IPS 4.1 site. Of course, it helps that it has no users.

I'm hoping. Unluckily I've been tied up the last 2 days installing (and then re-installing) a server for a guy. Figured out Webmin and CentOS doesn't play really good with PHP updates. Works much cleaner on a Debian/Ubuntu system, so I've basically installed 2 servers the last 2 nights (actually about 23 hours total time now). Getting a FB page set up is one of the next projects.

Quote from BB8: “Selectively choosing what to quote by just selecting it is awesome. How do you do that on xF? ” Really easily. admin-hub.com/attachment/553/?…9e7a1d920679c1c08d22a64b5 XenForo got selective quoting in version 1.4 back in 2014. Not sure when it got implemented in Burning Board (as core). My biggest issue is frequently with WBB you quote something and it doesn't put it in the hidden reply box. I end up having to open the reply box and THEN quote.

Quote from transient: “Looks like Comcast, maybe part of his (or his business) internet plan. ” Yep, does look like it. admin-hub.com/attachment/551/?…9e7a1d920679c1c08d22a64b5 It also is hosted on what appears to be showing (via whatismyip) as a mail server for triumptalk.com, which hosts a site by that name also.

Well, new week, new forum! Just got back into smoking pipes after a 30 year hiatus. Been a fan of cigars for a few years, but wife makes me smoke them outside. I can get away with a pipe inside as she "likes the smell" of the tobacco compared to cigars. So, since I tend to make forums on stuff I like, I've started a forum up for pipe smokers. Without further ado, Pipe Junkie is now open for business. It's utilizing IPS for the script. I'm starting to work with Pages for a Directory and also an a…

Would be happy to spend a little time going over this.. but thanks to a new version of Sequel Pro, two of my site DB's got merged into the linux one - with some tables joining together. Didn't catch it until after all my backup processes had replaced the older good files. Oh well - nothing like redoing one site and working on a new one at the same time.

Quote from transient: “was actually inspired by your comment (forgot where) about doing everything manually so it's kinda disheartening to read you recommending centminmod. ” It's just much easier to use a package script that works successfully and integrates everything well. Think of it as a CLI version of cPanel. Doing it manual is the best learning experience for anyone, but it seemed that you were getting frustrated and wanting to get a site up and running pretty quickly. I always recommend …

Really? The Linux site is more an info site for me and where others can post questions if they want. Could it be done by a blog (as far as a reference site) - yes, but not for others to post questions that are easily searchable. Been working on the MC site and looking at making it more a long distance riding site for the iron butt/touring crowd. In fact, ldriding.com is already registered for it. The recumbent site - it's been WAY to hot to be riding bikes recently - unless you wanted to be out …

Quote from BB8: “That would imply that 1) there are not many pipe smokers forums yet and 2) the number of possible pipe smokers is much below 50 percent of (your number here). ” There are a few out - but not a "lot" of them. Most of them are fairly small also. And pipe smokers are a small percentage (at least in the US) compared to cigar and cigarette - and there are quite a few cigar sites around. They throw a category in for pipes, but it's typically like the bastard step-child.

The limitations on what you can do with promotions and other aspects still chaff me - and is one of the reasons I rank it as low as I do. I am using it now on a new site - but that's because I already had the license paid for and it wasn't doing any good for the other site that has no traffic. This will be more of a niche site and I hope I can eventually get it to take off.

Quote from BB8: “So, basically, every website is a niche site? ” In all honesty, yep - most likely. I can see where a general Linux site wouldn't be considered a "niche" but a CentOS one would. But then of course the Linux OS is a niche because their are other OS's also. What I'd consider a niche site is a something like a pipe smokers forum.
